7 Easy Fall Activities With a Toddler
🎃 Cozy sweaters, crunchy leaves, and baby giggles — fall is officially here! Whether you’re chasing your toddler through the pumpkin patch or making a Halloween sensory bath, these 10 easy fall activities are perfect for busy moms who want to make the season special without the stress.
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons — the cozy boots, warm candles, the leaves falling from the trees, and that satisfying crunch under your feet. But this year hits a little differently — it’s my first fall with my mini best friend, a busy 1-year-old.
Watching him explore everything (and try to pick up bugs 😅) has reminded me how magical simple things can be. Growing up, we had a lot of fun doing seasonal activities, but I always loved the simple ones that let me get my hands and feet a little dirty.
As moms, we don’t always have hours to plan complicated projects. Between nap times, diaper changes, and snack breaks, we just need something fun, easy, and meaningful. So here are 7 easy fall activities we’ve been loving (or plan to try soon!) that create sweet memories without a ton of prep or stress.
1. 🍁 Nature Walk — Leaf Crunch
Go for a breath of fresh air and let your little one stomp on crunchy leaves, pick up sticks, and feel different textures. Talk about the colors — “red leaf, yellow leaf!” — and turn it into a mini learning moment.
My son giggles every time he steps on a crunchy leaf. It’s such a small thing, but those tiny moments mean the most.
2. 🎃 Pumpkin Patch Visit
A pumpkin patch visit is a fall must-do! Let your toddler explore the pumpkins, feel their bumpy textures, and pick out their own “baby pumpkin.”
Don’t stress about getting the perfect photo — just enjoy watching them explore and experience the world around them.
3. 🍎 Fall Edible Sensory Bin
Fill a shallow bin with apples, oats, cinnamon sticks, and some scoops or spoons. Let your little one touch, smell, and play — and if they’re anything like mine, everything will end up in their mouth anyway! 😅
This kept him busy for 15 minutes — which, in mom time, equals a mini spa day.
4. 🎨 Handprint Painting Crafts
Use non-toxic paint to make footprint pumpkins or leaf prints. They’re adorable keepsakes and make sweet gifts for grandparents.
Since he doesn’t go to daycare, we don’t get all the fun crafts — so doing them together at home feels extra special.
5. 💃 Movement + Music
Unwind with some fun Halloween songs like Monster Mash, Baby Shark Halloween, or if you’re like me — Will Smith’s “Nightmare on My Street.” Dance, clap, or jump around together!
It’s a great workout and always leads to giggles and laughable moments.
6. 🕷️ Halloween Bath Time
Toss a few mini pumpkins, plastic spiders, LED lights, or leaves into the bath for a themed sensory experience.
He loves anytime he can splash — it’s playtime and bath time in one!
7. 📚 Story Time
Grab a blanket, a couple of books, and have story time on the couch, under a tree, or even at the library. A peaceful, quiet environment is perfect for winding down.
My little one loves turning the pages while I read. I’m not sure he understands it all yet, but we’re getting there — one page at a time.
💛 Mommy Reminder
It doesn’t have to be Pinterest-perfect — the goal is connection. These little moments — sticky hands, half-eaten apples, and giggles in the leaves — are the ones you’ll remember most.
So mama, grab your drink, put on your cozy boots, and go make some fall memories.
~God Bless~
