What I Pack in My Diaper Bag Now (vs. Newborn Stage) — Part 2

As my baby grows, so does my diaper bag list! Here’s what I carry now compared to the newborn days — and why every item earns its spot.

Hey Mamas!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably realized by now that as our babies grow, so do their needs. And let’s be real—your diaper bag reflects every single one of those growing needs.

About four months ago, I wrote a post about what I packed in my diaper bag at that time. Looking back? Whew! It’s changed a lot. At four months, babies are still pretty fresh—so I basically packed the whole house every time I stepped outside. You never know what kind of day you’re walking into with a newborn.

Now that my baby is 10 months old? Let’s just say I still don’t always know what to expect—but the contents of my diaper bag have definitely leveled up!

He’s crawling, curious, constantly moving… and so my diaper bag had to evolve too. I even made the switch from an over-the-shoulder bag to a backpack (shoutout to all the mamas out here chasing active babies 🫶).

Yes, I miss the newborn stage 😔 — but watching my baby grow into this energetic little human has been such a beautiful ride.

Let’s dive in and compare what I used to pack vs. what’s in my diaper bag now!

Diaper Bag at 4 Months

At this stage, it was all about feeding, changing, and staying cozy. My diaper bag was full of essentials for a slower, snuggly stage of baby life:

  • Diapers
  • Change of clothes & socks
  • Baby lotion
  • Nose cleaner
  • Extra bottles
  • Formula or breast milk
  • Extra jacket (hello, chilly weather!)

Now that my baby is crawling and super curious, our outings require a whole new level of readiness. Here’s what I pack now:

  • Diapers (usually 5)
  • Teething toys
  • Oatmeal & bottles
  • Change of clothes
  • Wipes (baby wipes + Clorox wipes for surfaces/toys)
  • Plenty of snacks & extra formula
  • Portable baby changing station
  • Receiving blanket

Bonus Tip -Summer must-haves: Baby sunscreen + lotion

And What About Me?

Let’s be real—my side of the bag hasn’t changed much 😂

  • Wallet
  • Chapstick
  • Gum
  • Hand sanitizer

Simple and necessary.

Final Thoughts

The last time I wrote about packing a diaper bag, I asked:

“Is there a perfect way to pack a diaper bag?”

And my answer is still: NOPE. 😅

You’ll still forget things. You’ll still find yourself adding (and removing) stuff as your baby changes from month to month. Even the most organized mamas can’t plan for everything—and that’s okay.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: be flexible, give yourself grace, and keep showing up. Your diaper bag might not be perfect, but you’re doing great.
